What We Do

Mission Teams

In the summer of 2018, a team of 12  people came to serve in Voznesensk. That team planted seeds and a total of 49 children and teens professed Christ and accepted Him into their lives. Since then more churches have signed on to send more teams and pledge financial assistance. The long term team efforts will ultimately be to assist in planting a church specifically designed to reach the young adult age group, many of whom have fallen away from the church in Ukraine today. You will have many opportunities to serve over the next few years. How would you like to be  connected? You can use your gifts and talents to spread the Good News!

We hosted 5 mission teams in 2019 to reach a total of 238 children and teenagers

in the summer; We provided English Clubs for more than 150 English Learners

teaching them through the Gospel of Mark for an entire 10 month series; We

hosted more than 26 Morals clubs in School 10 and 5 and at the school in

Agronomia (26 in each school); and we hosted a number of Film Festivals and

Block Parties where the Gospel was shared. We saw literally hundreds of people

receive the Gospel and the only opposition we faced was from local churches that

felt we were too free with the Gospel – they believed the people being saved

should have to “prove” they were saved before they could be baptized. That’s not

how it works.

In 2020, we hosted more than 10 mission teams from all over the US and had over

300 children and teenagers profess Christ. We continued our English clubs with

great success and saw even better success with our Moral lessons in the 3 high

schools, especially Agronomia, where we started working toward building a

community center. We hosted monthly Youth Meetings with he students in

Agronomia that summer and saw a good turn-out among them on a regular basis.

We even put on a summer camp where we took a group of the students away to a

wilderness area for a weekend of camp with a guest leader from Texas and saw

some of them give their hearts to Christ.

2021 was an even stronger year with momentum building and salvations growing.

We began to see both teenagers and young adults coming in for baptism and

more and more attending the social events we were hosting. The camps increased

in popularity and our teams continued to be strong and did amazing jobs. English

clubs were good and Moral Lessons in the schools all continued and even

flourished. Everything was about to explode!

Then came 2022. Rumors about the invasion were growing stronger and people

were uncertain what to think. For the most part, Ukrainians did not believe it

would ever happen. They truly thought Russian would not try to take their

country and just didn’t expect anything to ever materialize. Then, in late February,

it happened, and life changed forever for all of Ukraine. We left at the advice of

the American Embassy. On February 27 th , I went to Poland to meet Oksana. She

also left but from Kiev. We met up there with the intention of getting married, but

we were uncertain of how things would work since we had been approved by the

American Embassy in Ukraine for emergency processing and now that embassy

was closed and we had to go to Poland. When we got to Poland, we found it very

difficult to marry – their laws were going to require us to be there for at least 4 –

6 months, and neither of our passports would allow that. We ended up going to

Denmark to get married and then back to Poland. Then we found out that

Oksana’s paperwork could no longer be processed in Poland but had been

transferred to Germany! So, off to Germany we went! After a few weeks waiting

for an appointment, her Green Card was processed in 1 day! She literally skipped

5 years of paperwork and did it in 1 day! I guess the 2 months of waiting was

worth it!

During all of that ordeal, Vasya, our assistant, was working diligently in Ukraine!

He was driving people who were trying to flee Eastern Ukraine to Western

Ukraine and there picking up medical supplies and bringing them back to

Voznesensk and delivering them to the army base there, as well as military

supplies like bullet proof vests and so forth. Vasya was a true hero during this

time because he was literally risking his life in these situations to go from east to

west and back. He never thought of his own well-being, he just did what was

needed to help people. Our facility was open for people in transition and some

nights we were as full as possible – and my house can sleep a LOT of people!

Vasya kept this up for quite some time until I simply had no more money to send

to him to continue. And even then for a while, he did it out of his own pocket.

What an amazing young man!

Since the war started, our presence in Ukraine has taken on a different look. We

now help through different channels and with different projects. We have been

helping people who have been displaced by the war leave the area and come to

America to live and work or go to school. We work through a program called

United for Ukraine which is a government program for refugees. They can come

to the USA for up to 2.5 years and sharpen skills or learn new ones and then go

back to rebuild their home country. Some will choose to stay in America, others

will choose to return. No one knows what he future holds for these people and

even they come here not knowing what they will do. They have left everything

behind – and many have nothing to return to – their homes have been destroyed,

their families have been murdered, their lives have been altered forever and they

simply don’t know what the future holds for them. We give them new options.

For every family that comes, it costs nearly $30,000 for the first 90 days. That

includes their airfare, transitional housing, documents, food, long-term shelter,

clothing (most have very little when they arrive) and all of their needs upon

arrival. After 90 days, most are nearing the point of being able to support

themselves. As I told you in another place, we have brought 3 families already and

have another 4 families in the process. Your giving makes a difference! We can’t

help these people without your help!

ministry – especially during this terrible time in the life of the people of Ukraine!

Able to Disciple

After around 200 years of it being illegal to preach the Gospel in Ukraine, in January of 2017, that law was overturned! Hundreds of thousands of believers filled the streets to celebrate, but millions more have never heard the truth that Jesus loves them and that they, too, can be saved. NOW is the time for us to act and be the hands and feet of Jesus sharing the Gospel, meeting real needs and helping to reach the lost and to disciple the saved.

See What Hope OnGoing is Doing

Our first order of business is to reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Once we have seen them come to Christ, we embark on a deepening discipleship journey to help them become reproducing Christians themselves. There are many ways in which we do that and all of them include a place for you to be involved! Some of the methods we use are below.

We go to the central market and shop! While shopping, we try to establish a relationship with various vendors and other shoppers and as relationships grow, opportunities to share the Gospel grow as well. We will train and equip you to share both your story and the God story in a relevant and meaningful way that will allow for the Gospel to take root. You might even get to see the harvest, but at least you will be part of sowing the seeds!

Seen & Heard training.

At our English clubs, we teach English using various scripture passages from different books of the Bible. We teach actual English lessons using authentic teaching materials. From beginner to expert, your abilities can be valuable! It could be as simple as having a conversation or as complex as the language itself.  Your abilities can lead to the lost to finding a real a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Maybe you have a special passion for married couples. Can you lead a marriage conference? If you have a passion for youth or children maybe you can you help lead a summer camp or Vacation Bible School-style week-long program? Or maybe a Winter Camp where you lead a Youth D-Now style program? There are many options and we would love to have your help.

Do you have the ability to lead leaders? Can you train pastors and church staff to work more effectively and with more confidence? There are always needs for training for our leaders in Ukraine, and they welcome the help with open arms!

Can you help start small groups and lead specialty groups while you are in Ukraine? Every small group we’ve ever worked with had loved it when American visitors came to work with them. Can you be an encourager in someone else’s faith walk? Can you help them visit others who might be good candidates for their discipleship groups? A little help can go a long way.

Do you have a passion for church planting? There are opportunities for you to be involved in a new ministry startup both in Voznesensk and surrounding villages. We always need people with a passion for reaching the lost and you could be just the one we need!
